One Night @ the Call Center

 The novel is surrounded with urban and modern life only. It shows how city life disturbs man emotionally and mentally. The characters of the novel facing difficulties in achieving their dreams and then compromising with call center job.

There are many ways to study the novel. One of it is "Self-Help Book".
Self-help book is written to instruct or give advice to its readers.

Characteristics of the Self-Help book is as below:

-Self-help books often focus on popular psychology such as romantic relationships, or aspects of the mind and human behavior which believers in self-help feel can be controlled with effort.

-Self-help books typically advertise themselves as being able to increase self-awareness and performance, including satisfaction with one's life.

Many celebrities have marketed self-help books including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth Taylor, Charlie Fitzmaurice, Tony Robbins, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra and Cher.

Here in this novel we find a section of God, who is calling the main characters who are stuck in a situation which is near to death. The words of God help the characters to come out of their difficulty. So the call of God is really very important in the novel. Can be said as the climax of the novel.

In everyone's life this type of chance comes once at least but one have to grab this chance consciously. So the novel is coming in a category of self-help book. It also helps the readers to get inspiration in life.

In the novel we see that...

# Shyam has a lack of confidence.
# Esha was depressed because of her low height.
# Radhika was suffering with stress and anxiety, and also worried to balance her duty as a wife and as a worker of call-center.
# Vroom was facing problem of his parents' quarrel with each other.
# Boss Bakshi was selfish and tried to get the credit of other's work.

These all problems are mental problems those are concerned in Chetan Bhagat's novel. Which is one of the characteristic of Self-Help Book.

In the novel at last in God's message he says that to be successful in life you need four things....
1.Intelligence,
2.Imagination,
3.Self-confidence and
4.Taste of Failure.
By this point the novel tries to advertise it's ability to increase self-awareness among people. This is the another characteristic of Self-Help Book which is present in the novel.
