Movie & It's Voice


We have seen 2 movies to understand the post colonial literature. As it was a group screening, we have a group task to give our views regarding both movies. Here are my views.....


Midnight's Children

  • Midnight's Children by Deepa Mehta (released in 2013) is based on the novel by Salman Rushdie written in 1981.
  • The movie observes and represents the time of India's Freedom.
  • Children who born on the exact time of India's freedom 15th August, 1947, Midnight at 12 o'clock, have special powers. That's why the title is relevant with the theme.
  • The main theme of the movie is Magical Realism, which is very significant. 
  • Rural India, Social Status and a 'Birth' in particular class of a society plays vital role in one's life.
  • Mix-exchange of babies and how their identities lost is high lighted.
  • Political satire is also could be seen. 1975's Emergency and it's effects are shown very symbolically.
  • Original novel is written by an outcast writer. So the literature is also having 'Diaspora' effect.
  • Deepa Mehta's movie mostly stressing upon relationships and magical realism which is associated with Post colonial Literature.

Reluctant Fundamentalist

  •  The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mira Nair (2012) is based on the novel of Mohsin Hamid (2007).
  • The novel is using the technique of Frame Story. 
  • It is an example of Dramatic Monologue. 
  • The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a post-9/11 story about the impact of the Al Qaeda attacks on one Pakistani man and his treatment by Americans in reaction to them.
  • Movie shows how Muslims are portrayed.
  • They are not all bad.
  • Sometime they have to shout for their justice that "I am not a Terrorist...."

Analysing Hindi Poem "Tum Laye Kapde or Sab Nange Ho Gaye.." The very title could be seen in PARADOX. "How can one be nacked after waering cloths?" Who is being addressed that is question. Modernist Poems Short But Dramatic

Part of our Study Task Modernist Poems of selected poets are analyzed here. Poets have written short poems but very dramatic. Means they are very much effective. Let's see one by one. 1. This image is a direct satire on current education system. We have same education system for all type of students and we have expectation that all should come first or atleast in first five. How is it possible? All have different capacity and expertization in their own skills. Their capacity and skills should be judge accordingly. Same evaluation can not give right result. For fair selection it is necessary to create the system which gives justice to all.
